Herb Tasting
Why taste an herb? Spending a little extra time with a plant and tasting the tea with a set of questions in mind helps us get to know the plant beyond what human conditions it may be good for. It moves our thinking from a “this for that” habit to matching whole herbs to whole people. For herbal practitioners, the practice allows for surprise because even after using an herb for years we may discover or remember something more when we sit and give an herb our the full attention of all of our senses. For non-practitioners, this practice can be a revelation as we begin to sense all forms of nourishment through the senses..
You’ll find it helpful to have a cup of tea ready. Any herb you’re curious about can be the focus of your tasting and, if you’re just beginning, something simple and easy to find like chamomile, mint, or ginger will do nicely.
